Creator of the L.E.G.A.C.Y. Life Review
®
My name is Nicole Onori Hansen, and I have created the L.E.G.A.C.Y. Appreciative Life Review Program for individuals, colleges, and organizations. I am an occupational therapist, certified health and wellness coach, and career development facilitator who understands the challenges that students and families face during the college transition.

The College Transition - Common Challenges
Students struggle with the unstructured living and learning environments of college life. Reasons for
this include limited independent living skills, underdeveloped psychosocial resources, and a lack of purpose or meaning in life. Without this foundation, students are not prepared for the transition to college or adult life, especially the rapidly changing demands of the 21st-century world. These challenges tend to be common among all students but are magnified for those with one or more mental health conditions.

Mental Health and the College Transition
Approximately 75% of mental health conditions emerge before age 24, and almost 50% of adolescents have been diagnosed with one or more mental health conditions. Common mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, make the transition to college and adult life more challenging. Even 10% of students without a mental health condition struggle with the transition to college.

What are Psychosocial Resources?
Psychosocial resources are the social, emotional, and psychological skills essential for thriving inside and outside the classroom. They are also the foundation for mental health, well-being, and life satisfaction. Autonomy, resilience, values-centered decision-making, optimism, coping with setbacks, positive reframing, meaning-making, and self-efficacy are a few examples of positive psychosocial resources.

The L.E.G.A.C.Y. Appreciative Life Review Program
The L.E.G.A.C.Y. Program prepares students for a positive transition to college and adult life by helping them develop and strengthen the psychosocial resources they need to thrive - personally, socially, and academically. The values-centered, strengths-based, and meaning-focused L.E.G.A.C.Y. Program is also designed to help students discern their purpose and meaning in life. Studies have shown that having purpose and meaning in life is a foundation for life-long mental health and well-being.

Begin Your L.E.G.A.C.Y. Life Review to Build Resilience and Live a Meaningful Life

The L.E.G.A.C.Y. Program helped me sort through a lot of disconnected experiences and setbacks that I had when I was growing up. I was able to look at my life from a big-picture perspective and see how all the threads are connected and have meaning. Now I know what is really important to me and how to use my strengths to live a healthier life. Participating in the L.E.G.A.C.Y. Program has also helped me learn new coping skills that have improved my mental health.

I was lost and unsure of my future aspirations, and Nicole’s L.E.G.A.C.Y. program and coaching helped me find a tangible direction. I was able to see the themes in my life story and make positive changes in my life. I am grateful for the L.E.G.A.C.Y. program because it helped me recognize my talents and gain the courage to go to graduate school. I highly recommend the L.E.G.A.C.Y. program to anyone who is going through a transition or feels stuck.
